Hello friends,
After going on leave to unleash a baby upon the world, I am back at my New York Times post. I will be writing all manner of reported features, essays, profiles for the books section and Magazine.
And, will also be returning the monthly newsletter where I proselytize succinctly on what pleases me. The new edition is out today, featuring philosophical aphorisms and shocking new fiction from the Midwest’s mutinous daughter, Nora Lange.
Other news:
In early November I'll be doing an event in my hometown region at Clio's, an underground bar and bookshop in Oakland, California that can only be described as “hella tight.” More information to come. We will intellectualize in a loose and bizarre manner. With booze. Mark your calendars. You may as well go ahead and block off the entirety of November because who knows what will happen—we could start a cult, secede from the U.S., invent new forms of literature…
Meantime, three short posts that were issued since I last emailed you—
Letter to child Thelma
Short cuts
Length training
To sign off I'll quote the poet James Richardson from "Vectors" (2001), who wrote that
The mind is like a well-endowed museum, only a small fraction of its holdings on view at any one time, and this is true from hour to hour as well as from era to era.
¿What’s on exhibit in your gallery today? Strange and scintillating relics, I hope.
Yours,
Molly
I don’t know what caused you to choose that gorgeous Hodler painting (On Lake Geneva) for your return to Life and Errors, but it’s part of the Barrett Collection here in Dallas and is even more spectacular in person.
Hi Molly,
Lovely to hear your voice again.
I was wondering about the artwork you used at the top of your post. Who is the artist?
PS Congrats on Thelma!
